Francis Kong
GAME DESIGNER & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
BACKGROUND
Based in Northern, California, I first started my career as a pediatrician. While I did enjoy the medical profession to a certain extent, my primary focus was always on gaming and community knowledge sharing. I was especially fascinated with how to combine actual fun gaming with practical real-world knowledge transfer. It was not long before I left the world of medicine and began my true calling of gaming and community development. Today my primary focus is game design, but I'm also well-versed in storyline development, narrative generation, character creation, and managing teams.

I also have a huge love for the community, especially at conferences and gaming conventions, where I often led many panels with other talented and amazing developers, designers, investors, and celebrities. In past conferences, I have helped Blackstorm Labs win the Best in Show awards at the E-Sports & Gaming Summit in 2017, one of the largest gaming conferences in Asia. On a personal note, I was awarded the UC Berkeley Mentor of the Year Award in 2004 for helping the next generation find their true goals and missions in life.

When I'm not writing or game designing, I love giving lectures at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley on the subjects of technology, social impact, medical tech, and the importance of gamification in teaching. In my spare time, I'm an amateur chef and food critic and have shared some of my insights on local TV shows such as the Bay Area's Check Please program.
